A sea of cafés
We asked Dr László Gerlán, the CEO of Formative Zrt. about the chances of coffeehouse chains about to enter Hungary – Starbucks (USA), C House Coffee Shop (Italy), Double Coffee (Latvia) – for finding franchise partners: – There will always be demand for quality service and good cafés, the question is how much customers are willing to pay for this. However saturated the market may be there will be contestants for Starbucks’ rights. Lesser known brands’ success depends on many things. Hungarian entrepreneurs see no point in buying an unknown brand; they prefer creating their own brand or ‘adapting’ good ideas. Sometimes the lack of finances is also an obstacle.

Buyers are buying it
Now that in several US cities fast food chains are obliged by law to indicate the calorie content of the food they sell, professional marketing experts of the chains focus on creating and communicating a healthier selection of food. A new term was also conned: fast food diet – KFC and Subway are happy to advertise it with their low-calorie products. In Germany, McDonald’s starts selling vegetarian burgers from this year. Panta rei!

A cooperation of giants
In February Burger King and Starbucks agreed that from September all 7,250 Burger King restaurants in the United States will sell Starbauck’s Seattle’s Best Coffee. This premium coffee will be available both hot and cold, for USD 1-3.
