Lidl keeps cutting down on plastic use
As a responsible company, Lidl Hungary has set the goal of reducing plastic use by 20 percent until 2025. They also made a pledge to market 100 percent of private label products in recyclable packaging. These measures form part of REset Plastic, the international plastic strategy of the Schwarz Group.

Lidl has already taken several steps to cut down on plastic use, for instance they reduced the weight of private label PET bottles and the size of the cap – this entailed a 210-ton decrease in plastic usage. Lidl stores have banned single-use plastic products such as drinking straws, disposable plastic cups, plates, cutlery and cotton buds – 37 tons less plastic is the result. These products are now available in green variants, made of recyclable materials.
Head of company communication Judit Tőzsér, told: long-term goals include replacing the packaging of private-label cleaning products with 100-percent recycled plastic designs. This has already been done with certain W5 cleaning products. Lidl has also created its ‘Responsible packaging’ logo, for instance, those private label products are allowed to use this which are marketed in minimum 80-percent recyclable packaging or in packaging that contains at least 30 percent recycled material.
