Costa is preparing to bite off a large slice of the ever-expanding coffee market in Hungary

At the end of May, Coca-Cola HBC Hungary was one of the first in Europe to introduce Costa Coffee to the Hungarian market for home, takeaway and workplace consumption. Considering that 85 percent of the adult Hungarian population has coffee and half has a regular coffee break at work, the domestic market promises to be an attractive and profitable coffee market. The company aims to achieve a 20 percent market share in the premium segment of the domestic coffee market in 12 months – Vajda Márton, head of the company’s coffee and premium alcohol portfolio said.

In 2019, The Coca-Cola Company acquired Costa Coffee for 4.9 billion USD. Coffee is sold in Hungary by Coca-Cola HBC, one of Coca-Cola’s largest bottling partners – present in 28 countries, said Prodromos Nikolaidis, the group’s coffee market director. He stated that “the total turnover of coffee in the 28 markets of the group of companies reaches 35 billion euros, and Hungary is a key coffee market, with particularly encouraging trends.
