Quality Street to be wrapped in different colours due to foil shortage
A limited run of Nestlé’s Quality Street products are set to be wrapped in different colours due to a shortage of foil. The temporary change is set to affect the hazelnut noisette triangle which is usually wrapped in green, and will now found in a short supply of tubs, pouches and cartons in a gold wrapper, while the octagonal orange crunch will be in a dark bronze foil.
Produced at Nestlé’s Halifax factory last week, stocks of green and orange foil didn’t cover the planned production run, however the FMCG giant has said this has now returned to normal.
While these items might be found with slightly different wrapping, the chocolates themselves which are rolling out across retailers in the UK and Ireland in the next few weeks, will remain unchanged.
“We simply didn’t have enough of the right coloured foil to cover the production run of the two sweets in question and, rather than leave them out of the selection altogether, we decided to use different colours for a very limited period.
This comes as Quality Street announced last month that it would be axing its bright plastic wrapping on its chocolate after 86 years to make them more environmentally friendly in time for Christmas. The change to the foil wrapping will stop nearly two billion wrappers ending up in landfill a year.
