Focus on supporting sustainable food systems: Nestlé’s joint value creation summary published
Nestlé is committed to providing sustainable, balanced and affordable food to its consumers worldwide. It pays special attention to education, sustainable agricultural practices and reducing its carbon footprint.
The company’s holistic approach is based on the commitment to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 at the latest. Last year, the company managed to reduce its absolute greenhouse gas emissions globally by 20.38 percent compared to 2018. This result is outstanding because it achieved the 20 percent target originally set for 2025 a year earlier.
Nestlé’s factories in Hungary have been using 100 percent green electricity since 2017, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of industrial production. The Bük, Szerencs and Diósgyőr plants supply Nestlé products from Hungary to more than fifty countries worldwide, with more than 90 percent of the factories’ production being specifically prepared for export.
“Nestlé Hungary is also continuously striving to make its production processes more sustainable. In the spring of 2025, a 2.5-hectare solar park with an annual output of 1.5 GW will start operating at our Szerencs factory, which will cover nearly 30 percent of the plant’s energy needs. Our production capacities are also expanding. In Bük, we announced the construction of a new factory unit in 2024, the commissioning of which will conclude the five-year development cycle that began in 2020, with which the company implemented an investment of 300 billion forints in Bük. This series of investments not only meant technological developments and an increase in capacity, but also contributed to strengthening the local economy and creating new jobs,” said Péter Noszek, CEO of Nestlé Hungary.
