Whitening pork sector, struggling industry
Éder Tamás, Societal, President of the Hungarian Meat Industry Association analyzed last year in light of the reduction of VAT on pork at the traditional Easter press conference of the Hungarian Association of Meat Industrialists, while Dr. Feldman Zsolt Minister of State described the effect of the VAT reduction to the consumers.
Éder Tamás said that the purification industry can already be felt, but so far sees no reason for optimism:
– The meat and poultry industry's overall performance isignificantly increased by 6.4 percent. Domestic sales of meat processing is drastically reduced, the industry produced a value of 691 billion HUF last year. In 2014, nearly 9 percent more pigs were slaughtered than in the previous year. Over the past two years, nearly 20 percent increase occured in the number of cuts, and the industry's performance declined by nearly 10 percent. The steady increase in the number of reported cuts clearly refers to a whitening.
