These were the best Balaton wines of 2024

On June 12, 2024 in Zamárdi, the ZAM! The 21st edition of the Balaton Wine Competition was held in the event hall. edition, which is the largest wine competition in the Balaton Wine Region. The event was organized by the Balaton Association, and professional support was provided by the Balatonboglár Wine Council. The competition took place on May 23, 2024 in Balatonlellé, at the Gastro- and Élménybirtok in Rádpuszta. The main patron of the event is dr. István Nagy was Minister of Agriculture, while the professional patronage was provided by the Balaton Wine Region’s Wine Region Council. Supporters included the Ministry of Agriculture, the Balaton Development Council, Schiwaforce.com Zrt. and SZERVIN Kft.

Six wine regions of the Balaton Wine Region were represented at the competition, and this year 41 producers entered with 204 wine samples. The wines included 139 white, 33 red, 17 rosé, 10 champagne and 5 sparkling wines. At the announcement of the results, 45 gold, 139 silver, 16 bronze ratings and 4 certificates of recognition were awarded.

The title of Best White Wine of the Balaton Wine Region was won by Mandorla Sauvignon Blanc 2023 wine from the Veszprémi Érseki Winery.
The Merlot wine of Androsics Birtok 2021 earned the title of Best Red Wine.
The title of Best Rosé Wine was awarded to the Kékfrankos rosé wine of Bujdosó Vszőlőbirtok és Pincészet Mentőöv 2023.
The title of Best Sparkling Wine was won by Garamvár Lellei Furmint Brut 2019 sparkling wine from the Garamvár Vzőlőbirtok.
The title of Best Dessert Wine was won by Varga Pincészet Aranymetszés töppedt grey-friendly 2013 wine.

The event was not only about the prize-winning wines, but also about the cooperation and competition between domestic wineries and wine regions, which contributes to the continuous development of the quality and international perception of Hungarian wines.
