Decades low consumer sentiment in the United States
According to final data released on Friday, the University of Michigan consumer sentiment index fell to 70.3 points in August from 81.1 points in July.
The preliminary sentiment index for August, released two weeks ago, was 70.2 points. Analysts expected the final value to be slightly higher than this, at 70.7 points. Analysts were even more optimistic when estimating the preliminary value, as they expected the same 81.1 points as in July. (MTI)
