Growing number of environmentally conscious SPAR customers every year
As part of the company’s environmental protection programme, SPAR Hungary only makes two kinds of plastic shopping bags available to shoppers, while customers can choose from many eco-friendly bags. The number of green customers keeps growing: last year more than 40 percent of consumers preferred reusable shopping bags.
This year 20 SPAR stores around the country also introduced reusable bags for fruits and vegetables – packs of 3 washable and closable, multi-use bags that will be adopted by all SPAR stores in the near future.
As for the volume of cardboard and paper waste reuse, SPAR increased the quantity by nearly 25 percent between 2014 and 2018, from 12,000 tons to almost 15,000 tons.
In 2018 the company collected 335 percent of the paper waste and 95 percent of the plastic wrap waste that they produce, taking care of their recycling. For SPAR waste isn’t garbage, but an opportunity. With the help of the right technology and attitude, the company can turn waste into value again. (x)
