Annual meeting
This year the Guild of Hungarian Restaurateurs (MVI) held its annual meeting on 5 August.
Members listened to and accepted the 2019 presidential report by László Kovács, the report of the board of supervisors and the annual financial report, plus they also gave green light to the 2020 budget and the action plan. MVI’s representatives decided that they will go forward with this year’s Gundel Award programme in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic – but the organisation of the gala dinner depends on the rules in force at the time of the gala.
Mr Kovács summarised the guild’s achievements in 2019 and talked about MVI’s plans for 2020: preparing recommendations for decision-makers to mitigate the negative effects of the coronavirus pandemic on hospitality businesses; simplifying VAT rules and reducing the taxes on representation expenses in partnership with the Hungarian Tourism Association (MTSZ); cooperating with the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) in drafting a development strategy for the hospitality sector; supporting participation in conferences and trade competitions; implementing the Gundel mentor programme.

On top of the recurring ones, the pandemic has brought about new problems, which is why the Guild drafted a package of recommendations to mitigate the consequences of the crisis caused by COVID-19, had its part in implementing the option to suspend loan repayment and a partial exemption of social contributions by the players of the sector, as well as in suspending the payment of the contribution to tourism development
