The world produces more than two billion tons of municipal waste annually
Worldwide, 2.1 billion tonnes of municipal waste are produced annually, it could fill 822,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools, according to a study by Verisk Maplecroft, a global research company that investigated the production and recycling of 194 countries.
Only about 16 percent, 323 million tonnes out of the 2.1 billion tonnes of waste is recycled annually, and civilation gets rid of 46 percent of it 950 million tonnes unsustainably, according to a study that was published on the company’s website. (MTI)
