Japanese spirits in Hungary
Formerly Japanese spirit had meant mainly sake in the West, but in the last two decades Japanese whiskies conquered the world. They keep winning awards and the biggest Japanese brands such as Toki, Chita and Hibiki are very popular in Europe. Unlike smoky Scotch whiskies, these have a softer, flowery and fruity taste. Besides great whiskies, the Japanese have also started making excellent gins. Typically these are flavoured the Japanese way, for instance Suntory Roku gin contains the flowers and leaves of the Japanese cherry blossom tree, two types of green tea, sansho pepper and Japanese citrus fruit yuzu.
