That’s how much student workers are paid these days, it’s worth employing them
The 2024 publication of the Tudatos Diák Wage Survey paints a uniquely detailed picture of students’ wages, working conditions and career opportunities, highlighting aspects that have so far received little attention from the public.
The research, which lasted from December 2023 to February 2024, involved more than 1,100 students and contained a total of 21 questions. The results revealed that average earnings, working conditions and career opportunities were the most dominant among the investigated areas. Based on the analysis of the responses of more than 1,100 students, the study provides a complex and comprehensive insight into the state of the student labor market in 2024.
The main characteristics of student wages and employment
The average student works 19.6 hours a week, which resulted in an average salary of HUF 1,920/hour in 2023, taking into account all supplements and allowances. However, there are significant differences between industries: IT, sales & marketing, and event management earn the most.
The distribution of wages between the sexes also showed interesting results: the average hourly wage of men was HUF 2,080, while that of women was HUF 1,910, which means a difference of 9%. The research also shed light on benefits other than hourly wages, where only 39% of students receive various additional benefits.
The data also show that 34.5% of students live on family support, while 17.8% receive scholarships as a source of income. The proportion of those who choose permanent or casual student work is 56%.
