Due to the war in Ukraine, which has been going on for more than a year and a half, the importance of the country becoming as self-sufficient as possible in terms of food production has become even stronger, said László Pekó, president of the board of CO-OP Hungary Zrt., at the national press conference announcing the 17th Coop Rally. On September 13th and 14th, nearly 300 participants of the professional event, which focuses on quality Hungarian food production and products, with the participation of more than 100 domestic companies, will visit six food production companies in Western Hungary and two member companies of the COOP Group on September 13th and 14th.

“The consequences of the war in Ukraine that broke out last February, including the effects of soaring inflation, did not spare the Hungarian food industry either”

– said the chairman of the board of CO-OP Hungary Zrt. at the national press conference announcing the 17th Coop Rally. At the event held at the Ministry of Agriculture, László Pekó emphasized: the war reinforced the importance of the country being as self-sufficient as possible in the field of food production, and thus ensuring the security of supply at all times. In this regard, he emphasized: the Coop Group, which operates nearly 2,200 stores in more than 1,400 settlements in the country, ensures the supply of 1 million customers per day in such a way that their stores sell 95,000 Hungarian products, including more than 800 own-brand products, 90 percent of which are domestically produced. Speaking about last year’s sales revenue of the company group, which employs almost 20,000 people and ensures the livelihood of 400 domestic small and medium-sized enterprises, he noted: last year their turnover amounted to HUF 748 billion, after their sales revenue increased by 19 percent in the last five years.
