Analysts: strong rebound potential in last year’s fourth-quarter GDP data

This year’s economic outlook is viewed differently by analysts interviewed by MTI; there were those who believed that last year’s upward-revised fourth-quarter GDP figure indicated a significant rebound potential, and with more dynamic growth than previously assumed, the economy could work through the coronavirus outbreak by the end of the year, while the outbreak uncertainty was more cautious.

According to the second estimate released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) on Tuesday, the volume of gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 3.6 percent in the fourth quarter of last year compared to the same period of the previous year. Compared to the third quarter of 2020, it increased by 1.4 percent, compared to the fourth quarter of the previous year, the seasonally and calendar-adjusted performance of the Hungarian economy decreased by 4.1 percent.
