ÉKM: municipalities and employers can once again apply for the bicycle-friendly title
The Ministry of Construction and Transport (ÉKM) and the KTI Hungarian Institute of Transport Science and Logistics are once again announcing the Bicycle-friendly settlement and Bicycle-friendly workplace tenders, to which local governments and employers can apply with their improvements and attitude-shaping efforts implemented last year, the ministry announced in its press release.
Applications can be submitted until September 30, the announcement of results is expected in November. Cycling is not just a leisure activity, but a key tool in greening transport. It helps to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, as well as air and noise pollution, as well as reduce traffic jams and parking difficulties – explained the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
In recent years, the opportunities for cycling in Hungary have continuously developed, and future plans also point in the direction of greener and more sustainable transport. The goal to be achieved is to make cycling more widespread in terms of commuting to work and a healthy lifestyle, they continued.
Settlements and workplaces play a key role in the development of cycling, as they create a cycle-friendly environment that provides safe and comfortable cycling conditions and encourages cycling by building cycle paths and organizing cycling programmes.
