Tamás Éder: Assistance to butcher shops is not a lasting solution
According to Tamás Édes, president of the Hungarian Meat Industry Association, it is a serious problem that the demand for meat has decreased due to inflation, while the costs of butcher shops have increased. This serious problem is not completely solved by state aid to small butcher shops.
“In the past period, we have noticed a slight decrease in demand for meat from consumers, which is obviously also reflected in the turnover of butchers. All in all, we think they are in a very difficult position indeed. The state support may be enough for survival, and then you can trust that the situation will somewhat consolidate and the market environment will improve, but this does not mean a lasting solution. “The most important raw materials became very expensive, the price of live pork increased by 70-80 percent in one year, in addition to wages, energy prices also jumped”
the president told InfoStart.
The president described the past year and a half as an extremely stormy time for meat industry companies.
