EC: there is a danger that Hungary will not achieve the 50 percent waste recycling by 2020
In the 14 EU Member States, including Hungary, there is a risk that the 50 percent waste recycling rate will not be achieved by 2020 for household waste – the European Commission said on Monday.
According to the information, the annual production of 2 billion tonnes of waste will increase to 3.4 billion tonnes by 2050, so more need to be done for recycling.
According to the report, despite the significant reform of the waste management system in Hungary, the results are not yet visible. Slow progress is caused by the lack of incentives for households to participate in selective waste collection and the lack of economic tools to help significantly improve the sector. (MTI)
