Food products are expensive, but they slow down inflation
Inflation pressure eased a bit in July, as KSH reported a monthly consumer price increase of 0.1 percent. The price of cooking oil fell by 8.3 percent, but pork prices grew by 5.8 percent. Prices were up 4 percent if compared with July 2009. Looking back on the last twelve months, we can see that food prices elevated by 2.8 percent on average. Seasonal products cost 27.4 percent more. Sugar was 13.5 percent cheaper and flour cost 10.9 percent less. Alcoholic beverage and tobacco product prices were 6.7 percent higher.
