SPAR reduces its paper consumption with digital solutions
SPAR Hungary saves more than 37 tons of paper annually with its initiatives aimed at reducing the paper consumption of logistics and stores. The company also launched an internal communication campaign among its employees regarding the reduction of paper use.
“SPAR uses a large amount of paper every year in the operation of its food production plants, stores, logistics and online shop. Reducing the amount of paper used is an important part of our company’s sustainability goals. In recent years, we have implemented several successful programs in this area: in the case of stores, cleaning diaries have been discontinued and refrigerator control sheets are now available as digital data. Thanks to this, we used 14 tons less paper in 2023. In the case of the SPAR online shop, we use digital delivery notes, which saves about 3 tons of paper annually. And recently, we launched new programs affecting logistics and stores, thanks to which we managed to reduce the need for paper by more than 37 tons”
– said Márk Maczelka, head of communications at SPAR Hungary.
In the field of logistics, SPAR achieved a reduction of around 34.4 tons by rationalizing the administration documenting the incoming goods and by reducing the number of outgoing delivery notes. In the store network, the company introduced electronic worksheets and a digital service log for SPAR supermarkets and INTERSPAR hypermarkets. Starting from the last quarter of last year, the company converted a number of paper-based inspection documents to digital format. As of last year, the annual HACCP-ISO training material is only available to employees in an online format. As a result of all this, the required amount of paper was reduced by a total of about 3 tons.
