Sándor Czomba: the number of registered job seekers continues to decrease
Based on data from the National Employment Service, there were 226,219 registered job seekers in October 2024. Their number decreased by 2,000 compared to the previous month, and slightly further decreased compared to the level of a year ago. This means that during the past three and a half decades, the number of jobseekers in October has never been as low as this year, the Ministry of National Economy (NGM) told MTI.
The statement quoted Sándor Czomba, State Secretary for Employment Policy of the NGM, who pointed out that the number of jobseekers who have been permanently registered for more than a year decreased by 4 percent in one year, while about 20,000 jobseekers managed to find a job in the jobseekers under 30 years old and inactive. with the Youth Guarantee Plusz program, which supports young people, and with the EU-funded program for those over 30, in which jobseekers can receive wage subsidies, housing and travel allowances.
Sándor Czomba added: the number and proportion of those who have been looking for a job for less than three months is constantly increasing, so more and more people who have been inactive until now are entering the labor market, and many of them can find a job almost immediately.
Based on the October data, it can be seen overall that the labor market is strengthening, and the number of job seekers is constantly decreasing.
The government’s goal remains to raise the employment rate to 85 percent and to mobilize the approximately 300,000 labor market reserves – read the announcement of the NGM.
