16 people are expected to examine, what happened, during the privatization of the Hungarian sugar factories 20 years ago. They also interested in why the Hungarian sugar industry in performance and production quotas  fell to 100 thousand tons. The parliamentary established a committee of inquiry.

From the former 12 sugar factories only on is operating now in Kaposvár. In the past one year, the sugar became almost 100 percent more expensive. Because of the reduced quota Hungary needs to import. Due to the rise in prices of sugar the so-called “shopping tourism” has been started to the neighbouring countries, that are offering their confectionery products cheaper. Therefore the agricultural ministry investigates the privatization of the sugar industry and the factory closures. The inquiry committee was set up on Mondayc and will work for a half year – reports szabadfold.hu.
