Producer prices decreased in January in the euro area and in the EU on a monthly and annual basis
Producer prices fell in January in the euro area and in the European Union, both monthly and year-on-year, according to a statement released on Tuesday by Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office.
In January, producer prices in the euro zone fell by 0.9 percent, more than the average of analysts’ expectations, by 0.9 percent compared to December, when they also fell by 0.9 percent.
In the EU, the monthly producer price decrease was also 0.9 percent compared to December, when a decrease of 0.8 percent was recorded. In the euro area, energy prices fell by 2.9 percent on a monthly basis after the 2.3 percent decrease in December. And in the EU, the decline accelerated from 2.3 percent to 2.5 percent.
