Nearly 5% contraction in FMCG sales in January
The Central Statistical Office (KSH) has reported: like-for-like retail volume sales were down 3.9% in January 2023; adjusted for calendar effects, the sales drop was 4.5%. Grocery stores saw their volume sales fall 4.8%, non-food stores suffered a 1.5% sales decline in volume, and volume sales were down 9.7% in motor fuel retail. In January 2023 the value of retail sales was HUF 1,333bn in Hungary – 48% of this sum was spent on food and food type stores, 34% in non-grocery stores, and 18% was realised at filling stations. //
