COOP everywhere, for everyone

100-percent Hungarian-owned retail chain COOP is practically present in all towns and villages with its 3,000 stores, and serves 1.5 million customers every day. COOP operates as a franchise system and the COOP Economic Group, which consists of 700 retail and trade SMEs, employs 32,000 people. COOP Club is the name of the chain’s loyalty programme which will soon have 1 million members. COOP offers private label products in four quality categories: altogether 750 different ‘Every day’, ‘COOP at good price’, ‘COOP Premium’ and ‘COOP Good for me’ products can be found on store shelves. The retail chain is devoted to promoting Hungarian products. Each September they organise the Coop Rally to popularise Hungarian products. COOP is a diamond level sponsor of the Hungarian Olympic Team (the cooperation started in 1996) and in 2010 established the Coop Aid Foundation to help people in need: since then the company donated HUF 100 million worth of groceries and vouchers. The retail chain’s work has been honoured with many prizes recently. Last year the Hungarian Public Relations Associations rewarded the company in its CSR Best Practice programme’s ‘Exemplary CSR Project’ category for organising the complex ‘Together for a healthy life’ campaign.
