Sure points in uncertainty
Possible responses to changes in the economic environment were discussed at the Business Dinner professional event on May 26th.
Nearly 70 people, including several members of the Chain Bridge Club, gathered at Hungexpo’s new Congress Center to review global, European and Hungarian macroeconomic characteristics in the light of the latest announcements. The meeting was greeted by Zsuzsanna Hermann, General Manager – Editor-in-Chief of Trade magazin.
The moderator of the professional discussion was Szilvia Krizsó. The participants of the round table were Péter Balázs, economist, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Balázs Felsmann, economist, energy expert, former state secretary, president of the Association of Hungarian Energy Traders and Dr. György Surányi, economist, university president and former president of the MNB.
The discussion covered, among other things, the causes and consequences of inflation and the depreciation of the forint, as well as its regional and European implications. With regard to energy supply, the possibilities of supply disruption and the negative effects of the shortage of goods, as well as possible solutions, were also discussed.
The possible effects of the decline in the real value of incomes on market participants and the structure of consumption were also reviewed by the participants of the round table.
Responding to questions from the public, the experts commented on the areas that could be affected by the possible withholding of EU subsidies, the burden of special taxes and further restrictions.
The lively discourse in smaller groups continued during the dinner.
