Although nearly 60 percent of Hungarians help the needy with donations, the rate of regular donations is still low
About 58 percent of Hungarians donate, 66 percent of them donate money and 34 percent help the needy with in-kind donations, according to research commissioned by the Hungarian Red Cross, which is among the first to provide comprehensive information on the Hungarian donation market. The willingness to donate is therefore encouraging, but the rate of regular donations is still low. That’s why it’s especially important to consciously help: the world needs more Santas, not just during the holidays, but all year round. The results of the research were presented at an expert round table held with the support of Coca-Cola at the charity organization’s Madridi út homeless shelter.
During the survey conducted on behalf of the Hungarian Red Cross, examining the situation of domestic donations, 58 percent of those surveyed donate in some form, 66 percent of them donate money and 34 percent in kind. However, the proportion of regular monetary donations that provide the most effective help, even in small amounts, is relatively low: currently only 19 percent are regular donations. The most popular among the beneficiaries are support for children, animal protection, health care, and humanitarian and social assistance. Donations from private individuals make up a significant part of the income of civil organizations, about 18 percent. Companies are also important players in the donor market: companies contribute 12 percent to the financing of NGOs.
