Balaton vs. Adria: where should you go on holiday? VOSZ also calculated it
Recently, many articles and speeches emphasize that it is more worthwhile to travel to Croatia than to vacation by the Hungarian sea. However, according to the calculations of the National Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers (VOSZ), on average, you have to pay 30% higher prices for restaurants on the Adriatic coast and 35% higher prices for renting apartments than at Lake Balaton. In the case of 3- and 4-star hotels, Lake Balaton can be a bit more expensive, but in terms of average costs, the Hungarian coast still offers more favorable options.
Comparison of the prices of catering places
Based on VOSZ’s analysis, the prices of restaurants and buffets are significantly higher on the Adriatic than on Lake Balaton. During the comparison, the prices of a hundred mid-range catering units with at least 4+ Google ratings were examined. The following examples show the costs of a family with two children:
4 pizzas, 2 beers, 2 colas:
Balaton: HUF 16,136
Adria: HUF 23,382
Difference: HUF 7,246
2 hamburgers, 2 hot dogs, 2 beers, 2 colas:

Balaton: HUF 35,673
Adria: HUF 50,842
