Uniliver welcomes the trans-fatty acid regulation
The grace period of the trans-fatty acid regulation expired on 18 February 2015.Since then the stores cannot market products that contain too many trans-fatty acids.
The trans fatty acids adversely affect the cholesterol levels: they not only raise the LDL, or so-called “bad” cholesterol levels, but reduce the level of HDL, i.e., the level of teh “good” cholesterol. The high cholesterol level is the main risk factor of the cardiovascular diseases, so it is very important to pay attention to maintain the ideal cholesterol level.
The trans fatty acid content of the margarines marketed by Unilever (Rama, Delma, Flora and Liga) are in accordance with the EMMI 71/2013. (XI. 20.) regulation, since the products are produced without hydrogenated vegetable oil for decades. The end of the grace period of the regulation does not affect the company's portfolio, as these products have passed the medical requirements before the legislation.
