On the Day of Innovation, the “Inno d’Or – Innovation of the Year 2024” awards were presented
This year marked the fourth occasion of the innovation competition initiated by Trade magazine in 2021, accompanied by a full-day professional conference. The event dedicated to innovation took place on May 16th in the Conference Hall of the Hungexpo Main Building.
International round of domestic recognition
The event featured exciting professional lectures and discussions that showcased the characteristics of current innovations and innovations, and at the end of the conference, the Inno d’Or – Innovation of the Year 2024 awards were also presented.
The goal of the competition is to annually reward value-creating innovations that provide a solution to a definable consumer demand, fit into a recognizable trend, or are the results of development inspired by an existing, definable need. The best entries, based on the Jury’s decision, receive the Best of the Best, that is, the Best Innovations, and the category creators receive the Pioneer of the Future, that is, the Category-Creating Innovation recognitions.
The competition is a huge recognition and at the same time a great opportunity for the winning applicants, in that according to the agreement made this year between Trade magazine and ESM magazine, it represents an entry to the BIG (Brand Innovation in Grocery) Awards for the domestic competition. Thus, the winners can apply for the international competition with a 40% discount. Any branded food and non-food product currently available in retail trade in at least one European country can apply for the BIG Award. The expectation from the applicants is that they represent high quality, carry distinctive distinguishing features, and stand out among the best products in their category. 5 categories, 26 winners
This year’s competition resulted in 26 winning entries based on the evaluation of a large number of professional juries, whose market introduction took place between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023, and which possess significant novelty content in their own category.
The evaluation of the innovations presented in the applications was done based on five aspects: innovation content, trendiness, market advantages, periodic results, and market opportunities by the professional jury, and then, where possible, sensory evaluation was also carried out. Applications were received in the specified main categories, including both manufacturer and commercial brands, with B2B and B2C submissions. This year, for the first time, the “free-from” applications could also start in a separate category.
The top 3 most points received applications were announced as absolute winners. Due to point equality, this year 5 applications received the Best of the Best 2024, that is, the “Best Innovation 2024” recognition certificate. Furthermore, one applicant received the Pioneer of the Future 2024, that is, the “Category-Creating Innovation 2024” recognition certificate. The winning applications are entitled to the title of “Inno d’Or – Innovation of the Year 2024.” The winners will be presented in detail in Trade magazine 2024/6-7. issue.
