The Brussels statement recalled that the characteristics of the wines produced under the names Kőszeg and Kőszegi are determined by the proximity of the Alps, the rock formations of the region and the cool but balanced climate with marked differences between day and night temperatures. These conditions, together with the late harvest period and traditional winemaking know-how, result in light, fruity, fresh acidic wines, as well as elegant white and red wines with a long taste and long aging potential. These wines are known for their salty minerality, which comes from the bedrock, and their structure is based on natural acidity. During the winemaking process, producers strive to preserve freshness by combining restrained barrel aging and tank aging, and to ensure that tannins are not too prominent in the product – they wrote.
The Kőszeg wine region is one of the oldest wine regions in Hungary, with a long history of cultural and economic traditions
The unique character of the wines produced under the Kőszeg and Kőszegi names is contributed by the selection of grape varieties, the expertise passed down from generation to generation, and the combination of traditional and modern winemaking techniques – they recalled. The new designation increases the number of more than 3,669 protected names in the EU database and register of agricultural geographical indications (eAmbrosia).
