The EP approved a draft directive to ensure the collective enforcement of consumer groups
The European Parliament approved a draft directive in its plenary session in Brussels, which will, among other things, provide greater and common protection for consumers in the event of infringement with others in their own country or in another member state – the EU parliament announced on Tuesday.
Under the rules, Member States will operate a harmonized redress system, providing consumers with greater protection against mass infringements, while eliminating abusive litigation.
Collective actions can be brought for breaches of EU rules in a number of areas governed by EU law, such as data protection, travel and tourism, payment services, energy and telecommunications. (MTI)
