Despite losing speed a little, Hungarian retail sales grew the fastest in the region
The slowdown of the European economy had its effect felt in Hungary too: in the last quarter of 2019 retail sales grew 2.1 percent slower in Europe and 2.7 percent slower in Hungary. In spite of this trend Hungarian retail trade expanded by 5.5 percent (in value) in the 4th quarter of last year, which was the second fastest in the region – we learned from the quarterly study Nielsen Growth Reporter. In the same period the value sales growth was 2.3 percent at a European level.
In Hungary FMCG prices were up 1 percent in the examined period, while in Europe they increased by 2.7 percent. In Hungary the food market expanded by 4.9 percent and the drug market got 7.9 bigger. //
