Live pig exports increased by 71 percent
According to the KSH data, Hungary’s live pig exports increased by 71 percent (6 thousand tons) in January-February 2024 compared to January-February 2023. The main partners were Romania, Austria and Albania. Imports of live pigs increased by 13.3 percent to 12.2 thousand tons, Slovakia, Croatia, Germany and the Czech Republic being the largest suppliers.

The quantity of pork sold on the international market increased by 27.2 percent (25.8 thousand tons), and its value increased by 29.7 percent during the observed period. Most of the pork was shipped to Romania, Italy and Croatia. The volume of pork imports increased by 13 percent (27.2 thousand tons), and the value was 24.3 percent higher. More than two-thirds of the pork came from Germany, Spain, Austria and Poland. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of domestically produced slaughter pigs, excluding VAT and transport costs, was HUF 835/kilogram of carcass hot weight in April 2024, a 5 percent decrease compared to the average price a year earlier.
