Annual inflation in the Czech Republic declined in August

Annual inflation in the Czech Republic fell to 3.3 percent in August from 3.4 percent in July, the Czech statistical office said in Prague on Thursday.

Compared to last year, for example, alcoholic beverages and tobacco prices became more expensive, while postal and telecommunications services became cheaper.

On a monthly basis, inflation in August remained at the level of July.
The price of alcoholic beverages was 9.5 percent and that of beer 3.7 percent higher in August than a year ago. However, the price of wine fell slightly.
Meat products are now 6 percent more expensive than a year ago. The price of fruit is 24 percent and the price of sugar is 12 percent higher. Housing costs have also risen, as well as rents, water, electricity and gas. (Kokes János, MTI)
