Comprehensive monitoring due to GMO suspicion
Comprehensive seed and crop monitoring was initiated by the Minister for Rural Development, due to the suspicion that genetically modified corn seeds have arrived to Hungary illegally, through the eastern border.
Ruthner Szabolcs, executive director of the Seed Association and Product Council told Világgazdaság, that it is suspected that the seeds came to a private importer.
According to Ruthner, strict notification requirements are applied to seed dealers.
“All distributed seed items need to be reported to the National Food Safety Office (NÉBIH). The NÉBIH decides about examining the items, and during the examination, it can not distributed. ” – hea added. (B.L., Világgazdaság Online)
