The new building of Gyulakonyha was handed over
Public catering plays a key role in Hungary’s food supply, said the State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture responsible for food industry and trade policy on Thursday in Gyula, where he handed over the new building of Gyulakonyha Nonprofit Kft., which was built with HUF 725 million and produces 4,500 portions of lunch a day.
Márton Nobilis said that 1.5-2 million people are provided with daily meals in about ten thousand cooking and serving kitchens nationwide. The budget for public catering has tripled since 2010, this year it is HUF 100 billion.
On January 1, 2022, the proportion of domestic products that must be used in public catering was increased to 60 percent, and to 80 percent this year, he reminded. The involvement of local products and producers improves the local economy and, at the same time, the quality of life in the countryside, he noted.
The state secretary called it an example to be followed that the Gyula municipality did not vote in favor of the outsourcing of public catering, which would put healthier food on the tables of the people of Gyula.
