Gold medal winner wines in Lidl’s product selection
Ten years ago Lidl Magyarország committed itself to promoting Hungarian wines.
As part of its “Lidl for Hungarian Suppliers” programme, Hungary’s leading grocery retailer made the promotion of Hungarian wines a priority, and in addition to increasing domestic sales, it is also assisting Hungarian wineries in entering foreign markets through the “Lidl Wine Expo” initiative. So far Lidl has made a contribution to selling more than 200 million bottles of Hungarian wine in Lidl stores in Hungary and abroad.
“Wine sales are one of the success stories we are extremely proud of. Since the start of the programme more than HUF 90 billion worth of sales have been realised by our domestic suppliers”, said head of company communication Judit Tőzsér. In the past decade more than 100 million bottles of Hungarian wine were sold in Lidl stores abroad, with the most popular being Szürkebarát, Királyleányka, Egri Bikavér, Tokaji Furmint and Irsai Olivér. Lidl Magyarország has also won in several prestigious wine competitions: the chain’s private label Feind Irsai Sparkling Wine won the gold medal in this year’s National Wine Competition, while Villány Syrah came home with a gold medal from the 2024 Berliner Wein Trophy international wine competition.
