The ministry’s statement quotes Agriculture Minister István Nagy, who stressed in a post on his social media page that work is in full swing in the fields, the autumn barley harvest began in mid-June, and is now essentially complete, with a national average yield of 5.6 tons per hectare. The autumn wheat harvest is also progressing at a steady pace, and despite the rainy weather of recent days, it is already at more than 50 percent. There are big differences in the yields so far, the average yield is 5.3 tons per hectare, but this does not yet accurately illustrate the results expected nationwide – the minister explained. He explained that farmers are still waiting for the other autumn cereals to ripen in many places, and rye and oats have been harvested and sold as silage in many places. The harvest of spring barley has been completed on 45 percent of the area, and the average yield so far is 5.3 tons per hectare. 61 percent of rapeseed has been harvested, with a national average yield of 2.3 tons per hectare, while the harvest of seed peas is 96 percent, with an average yield of around 2.5 tons per hectare so far – István Nagy listed.
The minister also mentioned that the capacity of crop storage facilities is adequate, and farmers do not have to expect any logistical disruptions
Speaking about crop prices, he said that they are typically above the levels of a year ago, around 10-15 percent for cereals, and slightly higher price increases for oilseeds in the case of sunflower and rapeseed in the case of The country’s supply of summer-harvested crops is assured and several million tons can be exported, he added. István Nagy stressed that farmers are to be thanked because they set an example for everyone with their diligence and perseverance. “Despite the challenges caused by extreme weather, they are doing everything they can to ensure that daily bread can be put on the tables of Hungarian families, for which we cannot be grateful enough,” the Minister of Agriculture wrote in his post.
