Lower prices for customers, higher salaries for workers, more orders for Hungarian suppliers – This is how ALDI supports Hungary
– What were the most important events and changes in the life of the company last year?
– In 2023 ALDI continued to focus on providing high quality service to customers, and it was the first to cut prices in a number of cases, so that Hungarian consumers could buy essential foods at lower prices. Last year ALDI further expanded the group of domestic suppliers and confirmed its commitment made in 2021: selling fresh meat from Hungarian sources only in its permanent assortment, making 69 dairy products only from Hungarian milk, and sourcing eggs only from Hungary.
“We celebrated our 15th birthday in Hungary with lower prices for customers, higher salaries for workers, and new orders for our suppliers”,
says Bernhard Haider, country manager of ALDI Magyarország Élelmiszer Bt.
– How did ALDI perform last year in terms of numbers and did this performance match your expectations?
-Today ALDI operates a total of 176 stores in 19 counties and Budapest. To date the company has invested almost HUF 260bn in Hungary. “We have invested nearly HUF 3bn in modern fresh meat refrigerators to improve our meat selection. One of our biggest values is people. This year we honoured our 6,000 or so employees in Hungary with a 12% pay rise in recognition of their work. Thanks also to our transparent HR policy, ALDI has become Hungary’s best-known employer, according to a Randstad survey”, adds Bernhard Haider.
– What are your plans for this challenging year?
– This year ALDI will be expanding its network with more stores. Last year the company installed four ultra-fast electric car charging stations in partnership with E.ON, and many more will follow. After the record year of 2023, ALDI Travel saw a third more bookings in the first months of 2024. (x)
