AKI: the volume of live animal slaughter increased in the first half of the year, except for poultry
Domestic slaughterhouses slaughtered less poultry, more pigs and cattle in the first half of this year than in the same period in 2024 – according to the summary published on the website of the Institute of Agricultural Economics (AKI).

This year, 50.3 thousand cattle were slaughtered in Hungary by the end of June, 26.1 percent more than in the first half of last year. 2 million 417 thousand pigs were slaughtered, 3.6 percent more than in the year-on-year comparison, while 113.7 million poultry were slaughtered, 4.1 percent less. Among poultry, duck slaughter decreased by 55.3 percent, goose slaughter decreased by 14.7 percent, while turkey slaughter increased by 4.5 percent and chicken slaughter increased by 5.4 percent. According to the summary, in the first half of this year and last year, the amount of poultry meat produced at slaughterhouses decreased from 273.8 tons to 262.3 tons, while the amount of pork meat increased from 223.3 tons to 234.2 tons, and the amount of beef from 10.5 thousand tons to 14.5 tons. Almost 250 slaughterhouses in Hungary have licenses, but not all of them are operational, they added.
