Dutch retailer Albert Heijn fights food waste with AI recipes
Albert Heijn’s new Scan&Kook initiative allows users to get personalised recipes based on photos of food products.

The generative AI-powered app was developed by Gen AI Labs – the retailer’s in-house team – and was demonstrated by Ahold Delhaize salespeople at the company’s second-annual Food & Tech Week event. Scan&Kook aims to reduce food waste by consumers: they can get suggestions on how to use leftovers by using the app. Reducing food waste is a priority for Albert Heijn. By 2030 the retailer wants to halve food waste from the 2016 levels. To achieve this they are using special software to support more accurate stocking and sales forecasting, reported Retail Optimiser. //
