Agrometeorology: soil moisture content is favorable for summer plants
Compared to the season, the soil moisture content is favorable: the part of the soil near the surface is still close to saturation, and critically dry soil is not typical anywhere – the National Meteorological Service wrote in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.
They wrote: in the second half of last week, there were extensive showers across the country, thunderstorms accompanied by downpours and damaging winds in many places, and even in the first half of the week, there were rains, showers, and thunderstorms in many places. There have been quite big differences in the amount of precipitation over the past thirty days: while in the areas of western Hungary around 200 millimeters have fallen, in some places on the Great Plain – for example in the area of Szolnok or Kecskemét – only 40 millimeters have fallen. The part of the soils close to the surface is still in a state close to saturation, but in the middle and deeper layers there are already drier areas in the Great Plain. Critically dry soil is not typical anywhere – they wrote. They added: the temperature has been 3-6 degrees Celsius cooler than usual in recent days.
The harvesting of the ears of corn has been completed, and the stubble has already been dialed in many places
The crop that was left outside for a longer period of time got wet several times, so its quality was getting worse and worse. Maize is very well developed in many places, in the Miskolc area it is not uncommon for 3-meter stands and double ears. The abundant rainfall of the first week of August throughout the country was very good for the herds in the stage of grain development. The sunflower has already bloomed and is in the stage of seed formation.
In the continuation, the weather will warm up significantly from Saturday, the peak values will be between 25-30 degrees during the weekend, and in the first half of next week, heatwaves above 30 degrees can be expected in large areas. The next few days are expected to be dry, with sporadic showers again only in the middle of next week.
