Agrometeorology: continued mild weather disturbs the dormant phase of vegetation
The continuing mild weather disturbs the winter dormant phase of the vegetation, the plants have started to develop, but too early development increases the risk of spring frost damage – HungaroMet Zrt. wrote in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.
In the past week, it has been spring-like warm, mostly sunny, typically dry weather, with the average temperature between 6 and 9 degrees Celsius, while the usual average at this time is 0 degrees. Weak frosts occurred in only a few places at dawn, while during the day the air typically warmed between 13 and 17 degrees.
Little rain has fallen since January 20
The drier, windier, but at the same time warm weather dried and dried the upper few centimeters of the soil, but there are still inland water spots in many places in the wider area of the Tisza and on the Tiszántúl. In the second half of autumn and the first half of winter, the soils were completely filled, except for the part near the surface, they are still saturated with moisture.
The autumn crops, where there is no permanent inland water, are in relatively good condition
So far this winter, it hasn’t been so cold that it would have caused damage without a snow cover. Although the pathogens and pests were decimated by the frosty weather, which is typical from the second week of January until the end of the month, at least at night, a more persistent cold would have been necessary to reduce them significantly. According to the forecast, the rain will fall in more and more directions from Saturday evening, and then the tendency of precipitation will decrease from the middle of next week. Temperatures are still above the long-term average, despite the fact that the weather will cool down a bit from Sunday. Night frosts will not return for now.
