In the past week, there have been several showers in several places, but the precipitation that fell from them only in the northern part of the country significantly alleviated the drought that had been going on for weeks, the Great Plain and the south-eastern regions of Transdanubia are still experiencing severe or high degree of drought – wrote HungaroMet Zrt. in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday .

They wrote that there were large regional differences in the amount of precipitation: it fell most often in the wider area of Budapest. Between 20 and 60 millimeters fell in large areas in the northern and northeastern regions of Transdanubia and in the western half of the Northern Central Mountains, 5 to 15 millimeters were measured in several places in the Great Plain and Transdanubia, but the northeastern and southern regions of the Great Plain remained almost completely dry. The part of the soil close to the surface in the areas affected by the rains of the past week has become thoroughly wet, and the moisture has even reached the middle soil layer, but the soil layer deeper than half a meter is critically dry throughout the country. Severe or high degree of drought is experienced in about 60 percent of the country’s territory. In recent days, the temperature has been 3-6 degrees Celsius higher than usual, in the first half of the week, peak values below 30 degrees were measured in the northern and western regions of Transdanubia, while elsewhere the air typically warmed up to 32-37 degrees.
Vegetation is about three weeks ahead of normal in development, which in field crops is also added by drought due to forced ripening
The sunflower and corn stocks are in the plant drying phase. They added: it is slowly becoming time to sow the autumn cabbage-rape, for which the soil moisture conditions are satisfactory only in the northern part of the country, but in a significant part of the Great Plain, the soil layer affected by the sowing is very dry and dusty. According to the forecast, it will be sunny, dry and warm in the coming days, there is absolutely no chance of precipitation until the end of the week, the soils will continue to dry, and the territorial extent and extent of the drought will increase.
