VOSZ’s position on the new work fitness test rules: employer obligations and opportunities
The Health Section of the National Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers (VOSZ) has issued information on the new rules for work fitness tests that came into effect on September 1, 2024. Pursuant to the amendment, making job suitability tests mandatory depends on the decision of the employers, unless separate legislation provides otherwise. The changes place significant responsibility on employers, as they must ensure that their employees are fit for work, taking health risks into account.
VOSZ emphasizes that it is still mandatory for employers to provide basic occupational health services. Addressing the health problems caused by sedentary work and working in front of a screen requires special attention, as they increase the risk of developing musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and mental diseases. The association also points out that a key part of sustainable workplace health protection is prevention, including vaccination programs for administrative workers and continuous care for chronic patients.
The Health Department of the VOSZ supports the holding of occupational aptitude tests, especially for administrative workers. In addition, it draws attention to the fact that occupational health services should be given back previously revoked licenses, such as the ability to prescribe medication and carry out screening tests, so that they can more effectively support the health and safety of workers at work.
