Due to Vinted’s action, FoxPost’s service became unusable
FoxPost’s parcel delivery service has faced serious challenges in recent days as a result of the free delivery campaign of the Vinted online marketplace. FoxPost’s machines became almost unusable as there were often no slots available to drop off packages due to overload. The seriousness of the problem was reported by Telex, pointing out that many people were unable to post packages for days, or were only lucky enough to find an empty slot in the machines.
FoxPost justified the interruption by saying that their system had been hit by an unusually high, “tsunami-like” load in recent days. According to Ádám Bengyel, CEO and co-founder of FoxPost, the overload was caused by a short-term free parcel shipping promotion, which was announced by an independent e-commerce marketplace, Vinted. The popularity of the promotion resulted in much higher package traffic than expected, which seriously strained the capacity of FoxPost’s system. Due to the overload, the FoxPost machines were constantly in motion, which caused inaccurate indications of the online availability of the machines.
FoxPost tried to respond to the situation and extended the working hours of its couriers to empty the full machines as soon as possible. The company also contacted Vinted, which removed the five-day free shipping limit on FoxPost orders, removing the time pressure. Thus, users no longer have to worry about their packages being posted during the five-day period.
