The melon growers in South Békés had a worse-than-expected year
The melon growers in South Békés had a worse-than-expected year. The season ended in the middle of August, due to the rainy and humid weather – the president of the National Watermelon Growers Association told MTI.
Oravecz Tamás presented that in South-Békés the per hectare yield was 40 tonnes. Due to the failure of the export nearly thirty percent of the watermelon remained of the fields, at least twenty tonnes per hectare. On the basis of the estimated average selling prices many of the producers closed the melon season with losses. (MTI)
