The price of eggs at the packing point decreased by 18 percent
Based on data from the European Commission, EU (EU27) egg and egg product imports increased by 89 percent to 83,000 tons in January-November 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year. 74 percent of imports came from Ukraine and the United Kingdom. The community’s egg and egg product exports decreased by 8 percent to 289,000 tons between January and November 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.
According to data from the European Commission, the packing point price of table eggs in the EU was 226 euros/100 kilograms in the first seven weeks of 2024, 9 percent below the value of the same period of the previous year. Based on KSH data, Hungary bought 1 percent more shell eggs (32.7 thousand tons), including almost 17 percent more fresh eggs (17.8 thousand tons) from the international market in January-November 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year. The export of shell eggs decreased by 17 percent to 10.3 thousand tons, within which the export of fresh eggs decreased by 19 percent to 1.3 thousand tons at the same time. According to the data of AKI PÁIR, the packing point price of table eggs (M+L) from cage keeping in Hungary was HUF 53.67/piece in the first seven weeks of 2024, which was 18.7 percent lower than the average price for the same period of 2023.
