More than 60 percent of the planned sowing work has already been completed
According to operational reports assessing the state of agricultural work, the planned sowing area for spring-sown field crops in 2024 will be around 1.9 million hectares. Farmers completed 63.7 percent of the planned sowing work by April 16. Sowing of vegetables stood at 43 percent, and the sowing status of cereals nationally showed 60.4 percent readiness.
The planned sowing area of spring-sown grain is 896.5 thousand hectares, and up to the date of the report, sowing was completed on 541.3 thousand hectares. In the counties of Békés, Tolna, Nógrád and Pest, the proportion of completed works was more than 80 percent, while in the counties of Győr-Moson-Sopron and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg it was 26 and 39.8 percent, respectively. The planned corn sowing area is 795.6 thousand hectares, of which 60.6 percent (482 thousand hectares) have been sown. In the planned sowing area of 21.4 thousand hectares of spring barley and 4.6 thousand hectares of spring wheat, the farmers completed almost all of the planned works (99.7 and 99 percent, respectively). The area sown for hybrid corn is expected to be 20.6 thousand hectares, and for oats 20.4 thousand hectares this year.
Grain sorghum is planned to be sown on 30.2 thousand hectares in 2024
The planned sunflower sowing area is 700,000 hectares, the farmers finished sowing on 514,400 hectares, 73.5 percent of the area. The area of sugar beet is 15.2 thousand hectares, 93.1 percent of which was sown by mid-April.
